The first step in machine learning is observation or data, such as examples, first-hand knowledge, or instructions. It searches for patterns in the data so that it can later draw conclusions from the supplied instances. The main goal of ML is to make it possible for computers to learn on their own, without aid from humans, and to adapt their behaviour accordingly.

The idea of machine learning has been around for a while. Arthur Samuel, an IBM computer scientist and pioneer in artificial intelligence and computer games, is credited with coining the term “machine learning.” Samuel created a checkers-playing computer programme. The more the programme was used, the more it used algorithms to forecast outcomes and learned from experience.
