Power BI Workspace Creation: Your Next Move

In Power BI, workspaces and groups are used to organize and share reports, dashboards, and datasets with others.

A workspace is a container for Power BI content, such as reports, dashboards, and datasets. Workspaces can be used to organize content by project, department, or any other way that makes sense for your organization. Users can be added to a workspace and given different levels of access, such as Member, Contributor, or Admin.

A group is a collection of workspaces that share the same set of members and access controls. Groups allow you to manage access to multiple workspaces at once, which is useful if you have a lot of workspaces that need to be shared with the same people. You can also create a group workspace, which is a workspace that is owned and managed by a group, rather than an individual user.

To create a workspace in Power BI, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Power BI using your Microsoft account.
  2. Click on the “Workspaces” tab in the left navigation panel.
  3. Click on the “Create” button.
  4. Select “Create a new workspace” and give your workspace a name.
  5. Choose the type of workspace you want to create. You can create a personal workspace, which is only visible to you, or a group workspace, which is visible to a group of people you invite.
  6. Click “Create” to create the workspace.
