What is CBSE?
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national level board of education in India. It is responsible for conducting the final examinations for the Class 10 and Class 12 students who are enrolled in schools affiliated with the board.
The CBSE was established in 1962 to provide a common curriculum and a uniform system of assessment for schools across the country. It sets standards for education and administers exams for schools following the CBSE curriculum. The board also conducts vocational training programs and teacher training programs.
The CBSE curriculum includes a range of subjects, including languages, social sciences, sciences, mathematics, and vocational subjects. The board follows a continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) system, which assesses students’ progress throughout the academic year rather than just through final exams.
All Kendriya Vidyalayas, all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, private schools, and the majority of institutions in India that have received central government approval are affiliated with CBSE. There are 3,011 government schools, 16,741 independent schools, 595 Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalayas, 1,138 Kendriya Vidyalayas, and 14 Central Tibetan Schools.
The CBSE is known for its rigorous and well-respected curriculum, and students who complete their education through the CBSE board often go on to pursue higher education or successful careers.
Compared to state board courses, the CBSE exam table is constructed differently. Instead of three tests spaced out throughout the year, Formative Assessments (FA) and a single exam known as the Summative Evaluation are continuous types of assessment (SA).
FA1 includes:
Students will receive a grade out of 10 for each of the three tasks that make up the Formative Assessment.
FA 2 includes:
The FA for semester two is the same as for semester 1, but there is also a summative assessment. This test is written and earns 30 marks (90 percent theory and 10 percent practical).
Children receive a score out of 100 for each academic year based on the 50 total marks that are offered for each semester.
The flexibility of the CBSE curriculum gives pupils the freedom to follow their interests and hence is preferred by many.
