From Web Pages to Data Marvels – QlikView Ajax/WebView

QlikView’s Ajax/WebView is a technology that allows you to display QlikView documents (QVW files) in a web browser. It allows you to share QlikView dashboards and reports with users who don’t have the QlikView desktop software installed, and enables you to access QlikView documents from any device with an internet connection.

QlikView Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) and WebView are two different ways to access and view QlikView documents.

QlikView Ajax is the web-based interface for accessing and interacting with QlikView documents. It uses JavaScript and XML to provide an interactive and dynamic user experience, allowing users to navigate, search, and analyze data in a web browser. QlikView Ajax is the default way to access QlikView documents and it is used by QlikView Server.

WebView, on the other hand, is a feature of QlikView that allows users to view documents in a web browser without the need for a separate client installation. This is achieved by converting the QlikView document into an HTML page, which is then displayed in a web browser. WebView is useful for users who don’t have access to the QlikView client or who need to view documents on a mobile device.

To use QlikView’s Ajax/WebView, you need to have a QlikView Server and a web server installed. The QlikView Server is responsible for managing the QlikView documents and handling requests from the web server, while the web server is responsible for serving the QlikView documents to the web browser.

To display a QlikView document in a web browser using Ajax/WebView, you can use a URL in the following format:

http://<server>/<virtual directory>/<document>.qvw

Where <server> is name or IP address of the web server, <virtual directory> is the name of the virtual directory that has been configured to serve QlikView documents, and <document> is the name of the QlikView document you want to display.

Once the QlikView document is displayed in the web browser, users can interact with it using the QlikView web client, which provides many of the same features as the QlikView desktop client. However, some features, such as printing and saving documents, may not be available in the web client.

QlikView’s Ajax/WebView is a powerful tool for sharing and accessing QlikView documents, but it does have some limitations and performance considerations. It’s important to carefully consider your needs and requirements when deciding whether to use Ajax/WebView or another method for sharing QlikView documents.
