Bulletproof Your QlikView Data – Backup and Restore Tips

QlikView is a business intelligence and data visualization tool which allows users to create interactive dashboards and reports. To ensure that the data and configurations in a QlikView system are protected, it is important to regularly back up the system and to have a plan in place for restoring the system in the event of a failure or other disaster.

QlikView provides a number of options for backing up and restoring QlikView documents. Here are some of the options you can consider:

  1. QlikView Server Backup: If you are using QlikView Server, you can use the built-in Backup and Restore function to create a backup of your QlikView documents. This function allows you to select which documents and objects you want to include in the backup, and you can choose to back up to a local folder or to a network location.
  2. Document Export: You can also use the Document Export function in QlikView to create a backup of your QlikView documents. This function allows you to export a document to a .qvw file, which can be used to restore the document later.
  3. File System Backup: If you are using QlikView Desktop, you can create a backup of your QlikView documents by simply copying the .qvw files to a backup location. This is a simple & effective way to create a backup of your documents, but it does not include any of the document objects or other metadata.

To restore a QlikView document, you can use the Restore function in QlikView Server, or you can use the Document Import function in QlikView Desktop to import a .qvw file. You can also use the File System Backup method to restore your documents by copying the .qvw files back to the original location.

It is important to regularly create backups of your QlikView documents to ensure that you have a copy of your data in case of data loss or corruption. It is also a good idea to test your backups regularly to ensure that they can be restored successfully in the event of a failure.
