Trace Your Conversion Journey with Tableau Funnel Charts

A funnel chart is a chart type that is used to visualize a process with multiple stages or steps, where each step represents a decrease in quantity or percentage. In Tableau, you can create funnel charts using the “Funnel” chart type.

For creating a funnel chart in Tableau, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to a data source and drag the fields that you want to use to create the funnel chart to the Columns and Rows shelves. The field on the Columns shelf will represent the stages or steps in the process, and the field on the Rows shelf will represent the quantity or percentage for each stage.
  2. From the Show Me menu, select the “Funnel” chart type. This will create a basic funnel chart based on the fields that you selected.
  3. Customize the appearance of the funnel chart as needed. You can change the colors, labels, and other formatting options for the chart using the formatting options in the top menu.

Funnel charts are a useful tool for visualizing the progression of a process with multiple stages, and can help you identify where there may be bottlenecks or other issues in the process. They are commonly used in sales and marketing to track the progress of a customer journey or lead generation process.

In the shape of funnels that indicate a top-down approach, funnel charts are used to illustrate the many stages of a process. Any measure, such as sales, profit, or costs, among others, can be used to demonstrate the size of funnels. It is particularly helpful in pinpointing process trouble spots or determining the highest sales volume.

A funnel chart is formed like one, as the name suggests. It starts out wide at the top and gets smaller as it descends. With the largest portion at the top symbolising the start of the process and the narrowest portion at the bottom signifying its conclusion, this shape is designed to illustrate the progression of a process.

Consequently, it is a style of visualisation that depicts linear workflows.
