Visualize population Trends Like Never Before with Tableau

Population pyramids are a type of chart in Tableau that are used to visualize the age and gender distribution of a population. They are typically used to compare the demographics of different countries or regions and to identify trends in the population over time.

To create a population pyramid in Tableau, follow these steps:

  1. Drag the “Age” dimension to the Columns shelf, and the “Gender” dimension to the Rows shelf.
  2. Drag a measure, such as “Population”, to the Size mark on the Marks card.
  3. Change the mark type to “Area” and adjust the size of the marks as necessary.
  4. Right-click on the y-axis and select “Synchronize Axis”.
  5. Drag the “Gender” dimension to the Columns shelf again.
  6. Change the mark type for the second instance of “Gender” to “Bar”.
  7. Right-click on the second “Gender” axis and select “Dual Axis”.
  8. Right-click on the second “Gender” axis and select “Synchronize Axis”.
  9. Right-click on the second “Gender” axis and select “Synchronize Axis”.
  10. Format the chart as desired and Add any relevant filters, legends, and labels.

This will create a population pyramid chart that shows the age and gender distribution of the population. The bars on the left side of the chart represent males, while the bars on the right side represent females. The height of the bars represents the population count for each age and gender group. This can be useful in visualizing the demographic structure of a population and understanding the age-sex distribution of a population
