What is Area?

The area of a two-dimensional object or form, such as a rectangle, square, or circle, is a measurement of its size. It’s usually measured in square quantities like square metres, square feet, or square inches.

To calculate the area of a form, first, measure its length and width and multiply those values together. A rectangle has a length of 4 metres and a width of 2 metres. For example, it has an area of 8 square metres (4 x 2 = 8).

A = lw is the formula for calculating the area of a rectangle, where A = area, l = length, and w = width. A = s2 is the formula for calculating the area of a square, where A is the area and s is the length of one side of the square. The formula to calculate the area for a circle is A = r2, where A is the area, r is the circle’s radius (half its diameter), and is a mathematical constant close to 3.14.

There are many other formulas for finding the area of different shapes, such as triangles, parallelograms, and more complex shapes. The appropriate formula to use depends on the specific shape you are trying to measure.

To figure out how to calculate the area of a circle, you must first understand two circle-related terms:

A circle’s radius is the distance from its centre to any point on its circumference.

The diameter is the distance measured through the centre of the circle from one side to the other.

The radius is half the size of the diameter, and the diameter is twice the size of the radius. Continue reading to find out how to determine the area of a circle based on diameter.
