How to Add and Subtract Whole Numbers?
To add whole numbers, you simply combine the numbers and add them together. For example, to add 3 and 4, you get 3 + 4 = 7.
To subtract whole numbers, you take the number you want to subtract (the minuend) and subtract the other number (the subtrahend) from it. For example, to subtract four from 8, you get 8 – 4 = 4.
It’s essential to remember the order in which you perform the operations when working with multiple numbers. In math, the order of operations is typically denoted by the acronym PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (performed from left to right), and Addition and Subtraction (also performed from left to right).
So, for example, in the expression 3 + 4 x 2, you would first perform the multiplication to get 4 x 2 = 8 and then add 3 to get 3 + 8 = 11. If you want to add 3 and 4 first, you would need to use parentheses to group those numbers together: (3 + 4) x 2 = 7 x 2 = 14.
ADD Whole NUMBERS.
The integers should be written with each place value aligned vertically.
Each place value’s digits are added. Work your way left to right, beginning with the one’s location. Carry to the next place value if the sum in a place value is more than 9.
From right to left, keep adding place values one at a time, carrying if necessary.
