Power BI Admin Roles: The Backbone of Your Analytics Infrastructure
In Microsoft Power BI, there are several different roles that users can have, each with its own set of permissions and responsibilities. The Power BI admin roles are:
- Global administrator: A global administrator is the highest level of administrator in the organization and has full control over all Power BI features and settings. There can be multiple global administrators.
- Service administrator: A service administrator is responsible for managing the Power BI service and has the ability to create and manage workspaces, as well as access to all Power BI features and settings.
- Workspace administrator: A workspace administrator is responsible for managing a specific workspace and has the ability to add and remove members, manage content within the workspace, and customize the workspace settings.
- Member: A member is a user who has been added to a workspace and has access to the content within the workspace. Members do not have the ability to manage the workspace or its content.
It’s important to note that Power BI admin roles are different from Azure Active Directory (AAD) admin roles. Power BI admin roles are specific to Power BI and do not grant access to other Azure services. AAD admin roles, on the other hand, grant access to all Azure services, including Power BI.
