Power BI Developer Roles & Responsibilities
A Power BI Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI. This role may involve working with a team of data analysts, data scientists, and other BI developers to create and deploy dashboards, reports, and other data visualizations that enable organizations to make data-driven decisions.
Some specific tasks that a Power BI Developer might be responsible for include:
- Connecting to and integrating data from a variety of sources, such as databases, Excel files, and online services
- Transforming and cleaning data to ensure that it is ready for analysis and visualization
- Designing and creating interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI’s visualizations and reporting tools
- Building custom visuals using R or Python
- Collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements and understand their data needs
- Testing and debugging Power BI solutions
- Maintaining and updating existing Power BI solutions as needed
To be a Power BI Developer, you’ll need a strong understanding of business intelligence concepts and experience with Power BI. You may also need to know SQL and data modelling experience. Having strong problem-solving and communication skills is also helpful, as you’ll be working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additionally, Power BI Developers must be able to work with different organizational stakeholders to develop BI solutions that meet their needs.
To succeed in this role, Power BI Developers must have excellent problem-solving and strong communication and interpersonal skills. They must be able to work independently and collaboratively with others to ensure the successful development of business intelligence solutions.
Additionally, they must have a keen eye for detail, and the ability to understand complex data sets. Finally, having an understanding of programming languages and the ability to write code to develop custom solutions is beneficial for this role.
