What is Website?

A website is a collection of related online pages that share a similar domain name and are hosted on at least one web server. A universal resource locator (URL) that identifies the site can be used to access a website over a public internet protocol (IP) network, such as the internet, or a private (LAN). Web pages, the building blocks of websites, are documents that are typically made of plain text intermingled with Hypertext Markup Language styling instructions (HTML, XHTML).

The user’s programme, which is often a web browser, produces the page content onto a display terminal in accordance with the HTML markup instructions.
